constructed during the reign of Rajendravarman (944-968)

The East Mebon was constructed in the middle of the East Baray, a body of water 2x7 km in size that some scholars believe was used to irrigate the surrounding rice fields. Built nine years prior to Pre Rup, the two structures share a similar form and style.
